Picture of Bijbehara youth wielding gun goes viral.

A picture of a youth who is belonging to Anantnag district of South Kashmir has gone viral on social media site where he is seen holding an AK-47 rifle triggering fears that he may have signed up for militancy.

The youth identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Gulgam village in Kupwara was missing from last one week.

Mir uses to run a photocopy shop and went missing on June 11 after he left home for the Kupwara market.

“We will now have two militants including Mir. The other one is also a local from Kralpora area. He joined some 6 months ago,” said Dinkar.

As per the details mentioned on the picture, recruited youth’s name is Rafiq Ahmad who has been codenamed as Abu Zarar (same code name as of slain militant commander Sabzar Bhat).

“His gun wielding picture has been circulated on social media. We are verifying,” said senior superintendent of police, Kupwara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar.

The youth is said to be a resident of Hayar village of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The police have not yet verified the authenticity of the pictures. On the top left corner of the picture, a stamp of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen district commander Anantnag can be seen.

Meanwhile, police said that they are verifying the case and further investigations have been taken up.

Earlier yesterday, the parents of Rafiq were seen appealing him to return home. He had gone missing some days before.

The police and army a few weeks ago said that militant recruitments are low as compared to last year as in first five months of the year only 40 youth had joined militant ranks. The police have been making attempts to bring back the youth who joined militancy to the mainstream.

As per police claims, more than ten youth who earlier had joined militancy have returned to mainstream.

Just five days before, pictures of two Shopian youth went viral on social media where they were seen holding AK-47 rifles and announced that they have joined militant outfit Ansar Ghazwatul Hind. Just two days after sharing pictures, the duo was killed in an encounter with security forces.
