In response to PM Narendra Modi’s 9pm 9min initiative, Bollywood and South Indian celebrities stood up and fully supported the initiative.
Celebrities like Rajnikanth, Anushka Sharma, Allu Arjun, Deepika Padukone, Mahesh Babu, Alia Bhatt and others switched off lights in their homes and lit diyas and candles as a gesture to show that we are all united in this times of pandemic.
Superstar Rajnikanth was seen standing at gate of his residence, holding a candle in his hand. His wife Latha
Rajinikanth accompanied him. Later she took to Twitter and wrote, “Let the gloom of darkness go. May light prevail and shine again. May the earth be protected.”
Mahesh Babu expressed his support to the initiative and tweeted, “9 pm 9 minutes. Light for India. Stay home stay safe.”
Anushka Sharma shared a picture with hubby Virat Kohli and wrote, “I light a diya everyday for many years now. And as I light the diya I seek guidance, asking for the darkness in me to be dispelled. For many days since the turn of the recent events across the world, I have prayed to God to end the suffering of so many who are losing their lives without their families beside them, for the less-fortunate and the needy whose lives have turned upside down completely, for all the healthcare professionals who are working tirelessly & bravely to protect the lives of other beings, for those who are uncertain about their jobs and future. So tonight, I prayed extra for everyone and I lit diyas with the whole of India and we all prayed for each other. Prayers never go in vain (sic).”
Actor Chiranjeevi participated in the initiative with his entire family. His publicist shared a video in which Chiranjeevi can be seen holding a diya with his wife and other family members.
